At her debut in a Mtb World Championship, Valentina Corvi climbs to the second step of the podium by winning the silver medal in the Team Relay race.
The 17-year-old, with her teammates Luca Braidot, Martina Berta, Giada Specia, Simone Avondetto and Marco Betteo, finished the race in 1h, 17' and 20", just 6" from the gold medal won by Switzerland (in UCI’s photo, the podium).
«We believed in victory until the end and we went very close to gold at the end of a beautiful race», said the Trinx Factory Team’s athlete. «I admit that I felt the pressure, but the staff and my teammates helped me manage the emotions. That’s why this medal is wonderful».
Valentina will not have much time to enjoy the medal: on Thursday 25th at 3 pm she will be back in the saddle for the Xco race.
«The track is demanding, with long climbs and treacherous descents. Managing energies in the first laps and saving a few watts on the climb to be focus on the descents could be the best strategy».
Tomorrow debut at the World Championships for junior Fabio Bassignana (starting at 17), while on Sunday it will be the turn of the Under 23s Noemi Plankensteiner (who will start at 9) and Filippo Agostinacchio (10:45), with Giorgia Marchet who will start at 13.
